A teacher’s story

Teaching is the noblest profession among all professions in the world. It entails a lot of sacrifices, understanding and patience. But, there are no words that can ever describe the fulfilment that a teacher feels after seeing a pupil change for the better because of his/her influence in the life of that pupil. It might be the most difficult profession in the world but the happiness that a teacher feels is priceless after seeing his/her pupils succeed in their own lives.
I’ve been a teacher for ten years now and this is the only year that I realized and learned how to be a real teacher to my pupils. As a neophyte teacher in Grade Six, I learned a lot of things from my co-teachers and especially from my pupils. I learned to understand them better by diving in to their interest and the things that they like most. I’ve been their cheerleader, best friend, worst enemy and most importantly I’ve become their mother or mom in school. This is the only year that I looked at my pupils as my own children “pasaway man sila o hindi.” The only reason why I never give up on them, even if they went to the point of stressing me all the time, is because “I love my pupils so much”. They will always stay in my heart forever no matter what happens.
I hope and pray that all my grade six pupils will never ever forget the sharings, lessons and advices that I’ve been telling them for a year. Most importantly, I hope they will never forget the time we bonded together as a family in school. As much as I would like you all to repeat as my grade six pupils, I have to be strong and accept the fact to let you go. To all my pupils who are reading this, I hope and pray that you will all achieve your dreams or goals in life and make me the proudest teacher that I’ve ever been. Advance Happy Graduation! NOEMI F.
