The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that they are working with the Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST) for the establishment of a permanent bamboo textile hub that will reinforce the traditional weaving
by producing bamboo fiber for yarn. Dr. Julius Leano Jr., director of the DOST’s PTRI in a press conference on the sidelines of the Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTIW) opening program said “at least we are starting to complete the supply chain so later on the goal is we produce our own yarn, our own thread that we use for weaving. That is our goal that is why we are starting to produce our own materials.”
