Bauang LGU sustains clean, green barangays

BAUANG, LA UNION – To sustain the cleanliness and greenness of the 39 barangays of Bauang, the yearly Search of the Cleanest, Greenest Barangay was conducted.
Winners in the search were announced and were awarded during the Rabii ti Bumarangay on January 3, 2019 at the Bauang Farmers’ Civic Center.
Payocpoc Sur, which was the hall of famer in the Search last year was the champion. Barangay Captain Virginia Ardina with her barangay kagawads received P150,000 cash and a plaque of recognition.
First Runner Up was Barangay Nagrebcan. Barangay Captain Merlita Mariñas and her kagawads received the P120,000 cash and plaque of recognition.
Barangays Disso-or and Palugsi-Limmansangan tied as the second runners up receiving P70,000 cash each and plaque of recognition. Barangay Captains Erlinda Abenes and Josephine Llarenas received their awards respectively.
Barangay Urayong, headed by Barangay Captain Orlando Orpilla, was adjudged as the barangay with the Best in Road Beautification. Barangay Santiago with Barangay Captain Clarito Tangalin was best in Recycling Practices and Barangay Dili with Barangay Captain Alexander Nonan was best in Urban Garden. These three barangays received P40,000 cash and a plaque of recognition each.
Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III addressed the barangay captains and their kagawads.
“You are the keys for a healthy, peaceful and progressive Bauang. All of you in your respective barangays exerted your own efforts in making your barangays what it is now, clean, green and safe. Sustain what you have done,” he challenged each of them.
He told the evaluators to have their quarterly evaluation the whole year to sustain what these leaders made for their own barangays.
Vice Governor of La Union Aureo Q. Nisce was introduced by the mayor as the guest of honor and speaker.
“You, the barangay captains should be true to your constituents. Listen to what your conscience dictates. For as long as you have the passion and the conscience to serve best, then continue what you are doing. Your decision is always final,” Nisce advised the barangay leaders.
He thanked the audience for giving him the chance to serve. He said that his services will not stop even when he is no longer a public official.
Provincial Director Paulino G. Lalata Jr., CESO V of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) La Union, graced the event.
He congratulated LGU Bauang for passing the Anti Drug Abuse (ADAC) Performance Evaluation with 95% high functionality points.
“I recognize the efforts of the LGU, the BADAC, MADAC in the eradication of drug addiction in the country. Congratulations Bauang! Let us celebrate this milestone,” he said.
Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Wilson Samuel Caluza and his team of evaluators conducted the search from October to December. His team, coming from the different LGU departments are the following: Myrna G. Romero, Tourism & Information; Marlyn Dela Cruz, MENRO; PCI Danilo V. Ligayo, PNP; Edgardo S. Eguilos, Agriculture; Raymundo L. Baltazar, MENRO; Roy C. Adquilen, Liga ng mga Barangay; Arlene C. Catbagan, MPDC; Mildred R. Estigoy, DILG; Editha G. Fortes, RHU; Baby Adelfa Fontz, RHU; Geralyn T. Gacad, NGO Representative and Clarissa A. Patacsil, MDRRMO.
Criteria for Judging are environmental management that includes physical condition with its support system, 60 pts; public safety, peace and order, 35 pts; and Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Criteria, 15 pts.
Meanwhile, winners in the Arch with a Lantern Making Competition are: Champion, Central West; 1st Runner Up, Bauang Association of Non-Government Organizations (BANGO); and 2nd Runner Up is Central East.
