BENGUET HOSTS LAUNCHING OF 2ND LEG OF 1ST PILIPINAS ART CAMP

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

The Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas hosted the launching of the 2nd leg of the 1st Pilipinas Art Camp with the theme “Building a Better Nation with a Soul Through Creativity” on May 17, 2023. The activity which is pioneered by the Pugad ni Art Studio and Alitaptap Artist Community is in celebration of the National Heritage Month. Gracing the event as the guest speaker was Cavite Board Member Irene Bencito.

Also showing support with their presence during the opening program were Governor Diclas, Board Member Juan Coy Nazarro, Jr., PIA-CAR Regional Director Helen Tibaldo, DTIBenguet Provincial Director Atty. Sam Gallardo, BSU President Dr. Felipe Salaing Comila, and DOT-CAR Regional
Director Jovi Ganongan’s representative Mr. Bayani Malicdem. Governor Diclas thanked Pugad Ni Art Studio led by Art Lozano and Alitaptap Artists Community led by Henry “Bokeng” Ancanan for
initiating the activity which he said a significant event in the promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the province.

“Bukod pa sa pag popromote o pagpipresrba ng ating kultura, mahalaga din ang papel ng mga gawaing pangsining sa pagpapalawak ng ating cultural network… [at] marami pang iba gaya ng
pagpapalakas ng turismo at pag-akit ng mga bisita, gayun din ang pag-generate ng employment,” the Governor said in his opening message. “Sa mga ganitong aktibidad rin natin binibigyan ang ating mga kabataan ng oportunidad upang palakasin at paunlarin ang kanilang creativity, innovation, maging ang kanilang critical thinking skills,” he added.

During the launching day, a three-day trade fair was opened featuring different local products. Highlights also include ‘Sabayang Likha’, Traditional Tattoo Exhibition, Creative Talks/ Workshops, Cultural Performance and Rituals. Different activities are lined up until Saturday in various venues including a Creative Crawl, lectures, concerts, gallery exhibits and demonstrations, and others. The first leg of the 1st Pilipinas Art Camp was held in Cavite this February.
