BENGUET LANDSLIDE BURIES VEGGIE FARMWORKER

BUGUIAS, Benguet

A landslide induced by continuous rains buried a farmer alive while tending a vegetable farm in barangay
Buayacaoan, Buguias town in Benguet Thursday afternoon. Jasper Jones D. Amoy, 24, from Bay-o Central, Kibungan town, was working on a vegetable garden when the rain-soaked soil eroded on him. Although he was rescued and rushed to the hospital, he did not make it, the Buguias town police said. The rains during that time was not strong but suspected that the soil was overly saturated with rain water because of the day-long rain.

While more landslides were reported in Atok town, also in Benguet including rock slides from rain-water saturated
hillsides. In a related development in Bontoc, Mountain Province’s capital town, the body of a 60- year old villager who was reported missing after falling into the Chico river in Sabangan town Thursday was recovered Friday morning. The remains of Francis Angel was located downstream between Malitep, Balili and Gonogon in Bontoc.
