Estellita V. Casuga, officer-in-charge of the DFA here, said this year’s celebration themed “Kalayaan 2017, Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin” reflects the heroism and sacrifices of the local heroes to gain the freedom that every Filipino currently enjoys.
In a short program, she delivered the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano for every resident in the Ilocos.
“As we celebrate the 119th year of the declaration of Philippine Independence, we remember the courage and struggle, the selfless sacrifice and heroism of our fellow Filipinos who fought for our freedom,” Cayetano said in a statement.
He also assured that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte is working hard to continue the fight for independence which includes freedom from poverty, crime, illegal drugs, and corruption.
“We again renew our hope and commitment to ensure that the sacrifices of our ancestors will not be wasted as we continue to value the sanctity of freedom and the spirit of democracy,” Cayetano said.
He said that the men and women of the DFA urge all Filipinos to join hands and help President Duterte to accomplish his tasks by reigniting the passion for serving and commitment to building relationships.
“Let us also remember the more than 10 million Filipinos living and working abroad, who work hard to liberate their families from hardship and give them better opportunities in life. The global Filipino indomitable spirit and character continue to make a difference wherever they are in the world,” Cayetano added.
