Diskwento Caravan set on June 1-3 in La Trinidad

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is encouraging the public to take advantage of discounted  rates of school supplies and other products and goods as well  get to know more about consumer welfare in  the Diskwento Caravan Balik Eskwela Edition  set on  June 1 to 3 at the Benguet State University (BSU) main campus covered court here.
DTI Baguio-Benguet Provincial Director Freda Gawisan said they have teamed up again with the Tiongsan Supermarket and Department Store and with support from the municipal, the provincial government of Benguet and   BSU for the first Diskwento Caravan in the province.
During the Kapihan sa Benguet forum for the launching of the caravan on Wednesday, Gawisan said that they have been conducting major Diskwento Caravans in Baguio City for the past seven years, but this is the first time that the Benguet will host a bigger and larger caravan that is expected to be flocked by consumers from Benguet, Baguio City and other nearby towns of La Union, Pangasinan and Ilocos province.
The three- day Diskwento Caravan will provide consumers with quality grocery supplies, household product, appliances and electronic devices and mainly school supplies at discounted prices from 10 to 50 percent below the selling price of the same products sold in other local stores.
This event is timely for parents and students to buy the basic school needs like notebooks, pad papers, pens and ballpens, crayons, bags and uniforms for the school opening this June.
Tiongsan Vice President Jasper Golangco said that aside from the price reduction of consumer goods and other supplies, there   will still be promo or bundles packs, product demo, trials and sampling, and exclusive bargains and bundles for sari-sari stores and cooperatives from major grocery brands and suppliers.
The bonanza will also feature games and raffle for consumers as well as concerts and entertainment shows for the whole family to enjoy.
Gawisan explained that the Diskwento Caravan aims to foster the good relationship between  the public and the private sector in terms of development , which is not only the responsibility of the government but  with the support of the private sector.
As partners in development, DTI together with Tiongsan will also be advocating consumer education, entrepreneurship and consumer welfare awareness during the caravan.
This will also be a chance to advocate the use of alternatives for plastics for packing and doing groceries as the municipality of La Trinidad as well as the city of Baguio started banning the use of plastics particularly in business establishments.
BSU President Dr. Feliciano Calora said that hosting the diskwento caravan is a way to support the community and the consumers by providing adequate venue for the three-day activity. It is also a way for the university to continue the research on consumer behaviour in the municipality. JDP/RMC- PIA CAR / ABN
