BONTOC, Mountain Province
The Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD)- Cordillera rolled out the Emergency Cash Transfer(ECT) program in the province on August 11, 2023 disbursing a total of P3,519,000.00 financial assistances to 385 families affected by Super Typhoon Egay. Four families with totally damaged houses received 13,000.00 each while 385 families with partially damaged
houses received 9,000.00 each during the distribution at the Provincial Multi-purpose Hall in Bontoc.
DSWD- Cordillera Regional Director Leo Quintilla explained to the beneficiaries that the ECT is an adaptive strategy in bridging the gaps in immediate relief by providing unconditional cash to victims of disasters requiring DSWD interventions. It is part of the government’s disaster response, early recovery and rehabilitation following the declaration of the province under the state of calamity in the aftermath of typhoon Egay that hit Northern Luzon in the last week of July.
“Sana po ang ECT natin ay nakatulong, Sana po patuloy and ating pagbangon sa Typhoon Egay. Asahan po ninyo that the Congress, the provincial government , the agencies including the DSWD,
are here to support the needs of the affected families of Typhoon Egay,” he said. Congressman Maximo Dalog Jr. said that the cash assistance will greatly help in the recovery of the affected
families. “The cash assistance will augment the affected families’ basic needs including medicine,
clothing, hospitalization, transportation, educational support, and food items.
This will allow the families to initiate and take responsibility for their development, thus increasing
their decision-making capability in dealing with disasters,” he said. Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. expressed gratitude to DSWD and other agencies for providing assistance to the province to help recover from the effects of the recent typhoon. “Today, we are very lucky for having the government agency headed by Secretary Rex Gatchalian that will help our people recover from
devastation brought by disasters such as typhoon Egay.
I believe that whatever amount given to our people will go a long way. So, in behalf of the people of the province, I wish to extend our sincerest thanks, ” Lacwasan said. Also present during the
event are Office of the Civil Defense-CAR Training Officer Arianie Christie Atolba representing Regional Director Albert A. Mogol, ViceGovernor Francis Tauli and members of the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan, Sabangan Mayor Marcial C. Lawilao, and Bontoc Councilor Viola Okko representing Mayor Jerome C. Tudlong Jr.
