Farmers in ELCAC-identified barangays get livelihood intervention

MOUNTAIN PROVINCE — Farmers from barangays affected by the issue on insurgency in the province recently received layer chickens and carabaos under the Special Area for Agriculture and Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Cordillera Regional Office. DA in partnership with the Mountain Province Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MP-PTF-ELCAC) distributed 2,000 heads of layer chickens and 37 heads of carabaos to augment their livelihood.
The 37 farmer beneficiaries from barangays Guina-ang and Dalican in Bontoc municipality received their carabaos at the Provincial Veterinary Office Compound. For the layer chickens, the Governor ordered the transport and delivery to the farmer recipients in their respective barangays considering the current limitations on movement of people due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Lacwasan who chairs the PTF-ELCAC, the livelihood intervention is a result of a series of consultations conducted last year in the listed barangays to identify the needed intervention from the government.
“This is among the results of the wholistic approach that the government has introduced to further help our constituents,” he said. The Governor expressed gratitude to DA for its continuous intervention to uplift the lives of local farmers amidst the current pandemic.
In behalf of the recipients, “Salasalamat iti blessings nga inmay iti ili mi. Daytuy timangi paneknek nga araramiden ti gubyerno ti kabaelan da ta matulungan kami ngaaddaitisulinek,” Eric Banganan from Dalican said.
