GOV. RAFY CALLS FOR UNITED, SWIFT ACTION TO AID CITY AUXILIARY MARKET FIRE VICTIMS

SAN FERNANDO, La Union

Following the fire incident in the City of San Fernando Auxiliary Market, today, January 11, 2024, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David has directed the offices of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) to convene an emergency meeting for a comprehensive post-incident report on damages and to coordinate and formulate immediate plans and action for assistance to affected market vendors and stall owners.

Among the initial immediate actions taken by the PGLU were the distribution of food and lunch packs to the victims and the provision of psychological and medical assistance. As per the reports of the Bureau of Fire Protection delivered by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management
Officer (PDRRMO) Aureliano Rulloda III, there was no fatal casualty recorded. It was declared fire out at around 6:30 AM while the estimated amount of damages and cause of fire is still under investigation.

Additional safety measures are currently being implemented to prevent people from entering the place of incident. Gov. Rafy has also given directives to mobilize its PGLU resources to help manage the aftermath of the incident. The PDRRMO and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office are coordinating with the City Government to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected and the immediate provision of needed assistance.

She also instructed concerned departments to coordinate long-term recovery plans for the City.
The PGLU has also called for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan through donations and continuous prayer and support for the affected kaprobinsiaan. Monetary contributions and non-perishable items are welcomed and being coursed through the City DRRMO and City Treasury.

As Gov. Rafy continues to monitor the situation, she is determined to work hand-inhand with the City Government and other concerned agencies and offices in rebuilding the livelihood of those affected by the fire incident.
