Hunted Criminal Surrenders To Newly-deployed Army Troopers In Cagayan

BAGUIO CITY (September 30, 2020) – A wanted criminal in hiding surrendered to newly-deployed Philippine Army troopers in barangay Tanglagan, Gattaran town in Cagayan province just as the soldiers were “talking” with villagers there.

Boyet Fernandez Tuliao, a wanted person charged of murder turned himself in to soldiers from the 77th Infantry Battalion, who were visiting and coordinating wityh barangay officials on the efforts to rid the area from communist rebels. Tuliao’s surrender was facilitated by his son, a former rebel who was previously helped by the troopers, Lt. Col. Joe Boy Kindipan, battalion commander of the 77th Infantry said. Tuliao was later turned over to the Gattaran Police Station for proper disposition.

The surrender affirmed the strong coordination and collaboration “our soldiers and the police to achieve peace, security and development in Cagayan, added Kindipan. The cooperation and support of the populace is vital for the success not only in the campaign against insurgency but also in the campaign against criminality, he stressed.

Brigadier General Laurence Mina, commander of the Isabela-based 5th Infantry (Star) Division hailed the newly deployed Army battalion as he acknowledged the trust bestowed to soldiers by the former rebel for the surrender of his father. “I am grateful with the former rebel for trusting his father’s surrender to the Star troopers. It is indeed a manifestation of the people’s high confidence to the Army and the AFP in general.”

Tuliao was hunted by the Gattaran town police in Barangay Mabuno wherein a firefight broke out between policemen and NPA rebels last August.
