Ilocanos praise Duterte’s 3rd State of the Nation Address

LAOAG CITY – The people in Ilocos Norte were all praises for the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on July 23.
For some of the Ilocanos in the province, the delivery of the SONA was smooth, with less adlibs, which everyone least expected.
Batac City Prosecutor Valentin Leaño Pascua remarked that the President did not curse in his speech.
“No cursing. No bad words. I commend the President for that,” Pascua said.
Newly-elected barangay official Manny Morales had the same observation as he lauded the simplicity of Duterte’s speech, but highlighting the issues that matter which the Filipino people needed to know.
“It was not wordy at all, but every issue was well discussed,” said Morales.
President Duterte in his third SONA emphasized his administration’s continuous fight against illegal drugs, and said it will be more chilling in the remaining years of his administration.
Responding to the lament of the people fighting against this campaign, he said that he is protecting the lives of the Filipinos, which is for the greater good.
Duterte also reminded government offices and its officials to stop stealing people’s money as his administration pledges to enhance the government services.
Hearing this, Gertrude Albano, a retiree and a government pensioner, commended Duterte saying that there are still public offices that are operating under ‘red tape.’
“He is the only President who has the guts to say and admit that.  I applaud him for summoning the public offices to provide better services especially some government agencies that still provide lousy services,” Albano said.
President Duterte’s third SONA only lasted for about 48 minutes, the shortest, so far, compared to his first two addresses. CHERRY JOY D. GARMA, PIA-Ilocos Norte / ABN
