Itogon, Benguet reports first Coronavirus case
Itogon, Benguet was found positive of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 or Covid-19, Itogon mayor Victorio T. Palangdan confirmed on Friday, May 29, 2020.
Palangdan said he received a report from Itogon Municipal Health officer Oliver Guadana that the swab test result just came in from the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Initial reports revealed that the patient is a Jail Officer from the New Bilibid Prison in Manila, who initially tested negative from rapid testing before going home to Itogon, Palangdan said.
Palangdan also said that contact tracing is now being undertaken extensively for proper isolation and swab testing.
He said he has instructed Itogon Chief of Police Rommel Sawatang to implement a total lockdown in Barangay Ucab until further notice.
The mayor is appealing to all residents to follow basic health protocols while the municipal government of Itogon and all other government agencies continue to work to prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease.
