LA TRINIDAD CELEBRATES 73RD FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

La Trinidad officials headed by Mayor Romeo Salda and Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan led the
celebration with the theme “La Trinidad: Flourishing in the New Normal.” This year’s celebration
brought back the traditional activities which were previously halted due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 protocols. Prior to the main program, officials and employees participated in the civic parade and the ecumenical mass. A ritual and traditional prayers were also performed and
witnessed by the officials.

During the program, Governor Melchor Diclas greeted and congratulated the municipality of La Trinidad. He also thanked the past and current officials who worked hard for the development and
progress of the municipality thru the years. He made special mention to the late mayor, governor and congressman who hail from Puguis, La Trinidad, and Nestor Fongwan Sr. Gov. Diclas said that being the capital town of the province, most of the facilities is in the municipality, and thru the provincial government in partnership with Congressman Eric Yap, more developments is being done such as the improvement of the facilities and equipment of the Benguet General Hospital and the Benguet Sports Complex.

He also called on the unity among the officials and the constituents for the continuing development and progress of La Trinidad and Benguet province. Meanwhile, Congressman Yap shared his aspirations for the capital town of La Trinidad and asked for the support from the residents of the
municipality as well as the province of Benguet in his keynote message read by Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin. The Congressman noted that he already filed the bill for the cityhood of La Trinidad, the first bill he filed in the opening of the 19th Congress.

He said that it is about time to hail La Trinidad as “The City of La Trinidad” being the capital town of Benguet. He added that he also filed a bill converting all the capital towns in every province into
cities in recognition to the capital town of the country’s provinces. He also shared other ongoing projects in La Trinidad such as the Aquatic Center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool following the completion of a track and field oval in Wangal and the vision of having Benguet Convention
Center. Other projects include the flood control project at the Strawberry Farm, Pines Park Bridge, and solar street lights.

Punong barangays of La Trinidad received copies of the Katarungang Pambarangay Operations Manual with Mayor Salda, Vice Mayor Awingan and Cruz Punong Barangay and Councilor
Charles Canuto. The main program was also attended by other city, provincial and municipal
officials in Benguet and Baguio City, reps from the different sister municipalities, former local officials, reps from line agencies and law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations and members of the community. The municipal employees also showcased a skit highlighting the history of La Trinidad and a cultural presentations capped by the dancing of the traditional
Bindiyan dance by the local officials and members of the community.
