Laoag Vice Mayor Fariñas killed in car crash

LAOAG CITY, ILOCOS NORTE – Laoag City Vice Mayor Michael Fariñas was killed in car accident along a bypass road here on June 6.
Fariñas, on his way home, was driving a Mercedes Benz SUV when his vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier along Barangay 55-C Vira, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Ilocos region police director.
Investigation showed that the vice mayor suffered severe injuries in the head and body.
The vice mayor was rushed to Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His companion, Senior Police Officer 2 Melchor Geronimo, is still under observation at the hospital.
Laoag City Chief of Police Superintendent Dominic Guerrero said Fariñas overshot a sharp curve before his car hit a roadside barrier and was thrown from the vehicle into a field.
The vice mayor was a nephew of House of Representatives Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and husband of Laoag Mayor Chevylle Fariñas. ABN
