Mayor pushes devolvement of permits for private deep wells in the city

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan requested the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to devolve the issuance of permits for private deep wells in the city to lessen the city’s problems and address the possibility of worse cases that could affect the water sources.
During the mayor’s weekly ‘Ugnayan” with the press on Wednesday, Domogan said that the 18th congress should anticipate the devolvement of releasing permits for private deep wells in the city noting that 70% of water source is extracted from it.
He also encouraged the city to persuade the NWRB to positively act on the matter. “Let’s help pressure the National Water Resources Board to devolve the releasing of permits for the private deep wells operating in the city”, Domogan said.
Domogan previously identified the sources of water stating that 70% were extracted from deep wells; 20% from Busol water shed; 5% from Boyug water shed; and 5% from Sto. Tomas water shed.
This action could lessen the water problems in the city and could contribute to the water supply despite the wrath of El Nino, the mayor added.
