BCEZ lauded for remarkable US$2.190B soar in 2018 Export receipts

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan strongly recognized the Baguio City Economic Zone (BCEZ) for its contribution to the economic growth of the city, the Cordillera region as well as to the whole country.
“In behalf of the city government, let me extend my congratulation and commendation to Baguio City Economic Zone (BCEZ) as well as the Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA) for 40 years of competent and good service to the Filipino people,” Mayor Domogan said.
“We can not underestimate the economic contribution to our country, to the host local communities for the Cordilleras as an example, specifically the city of Baguio,” Domogan added.
Together with Domogan, PEZA director general Charito Plaza also graced the 40th year celebration of the export facility held recently at Pines View Hotel.
“If you look at it, among all the line agencies or local government units in the entire region, it is only Baguio City which is not Internal RevenueAllotment (IRA) dependent,” Domogan said.
“The (annual) budget of the city is locally generated and Baguio Economic Zone contributes not less than P160 to 200 million of the said budget,” the mayor said.
“What the economic zone really plays in our economic development and the employment of Filipino people cannot be discounted and it’s very important,” Domogan said.
He pointed out the world class quality products and services by local the local enterprises in BCEZ.
As this developed, the city mayor announced that a 138- hectare lot near the BCEZ is being eyed for expansion. He urged PEZA officials to support the move.
In another development, Economic Zone Deputy OIC-Administrator Allan Datahan reported that in 2018, the BCEZ has posted $2.190 billion in export receipts, a marked improvement from the US$1.912 billion posted in 2017 and the US$1.670 billion in 2016.
In 2018, Radio,TV and Communication Equipment and Apparatus topped the list of export earnings with US$1.492 billion, followed by Fabricated Metal Products with $599.966 million and IT with US$40.662 million.
The BCEZ official added the economic zone has generated 14,223 jobs and posted P5.899 billion in terms of salaries and wages.
IT companies registered the highest number of jobs generated with more than 4,000 at John Hay Special Tourism Economic Zone and at SM Baguio Cyberzone facility, combined.
At present, BCEZ said Datahan has now 13 export manufacturing enterprises; seven facilities enterprises; five each of logistics services and IT enterprises, respectively; and three utilities enterprises.
During the celebration, Mayor Domogan and PEZA Director General Plaza led in the awarding of plaques of appreciation to BCEZ locator enterprises: Texas Instruments (TI) Philippines, Inc.;
Adriste (Philippines), Inc.; Moog Controls Corporation (Philippine Branch); Bay-Sports Manufacturing, Inc.; and Tara Designs (Phil), Inc. Several government line agencies were also commended as partners for development.
The event also capped the distribution of Loyalty and Service awards to selected PEZA-BCEZ officers and personnel, and plaques of appreciation to past BCEZ Administrators.
