New Year salubong, Generally Peaceful

PROCOR Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet: Aside from the three reported incidents in Abra, the traditional new year salubong in the Cordillera Region is generally peaceful.
According to the reports reaching the Regional Director, PBGEN RONALD OLIVER LEE, one incident of illegal discharge of firearms, one incident of a stray bullet, and one firecracker related incident were transpired in Abra from December 31, 2021 to January 1, 2021.
In Tayum, the quick response of Tayum MPS resulted in the arrest of Anthony Ramos Maneja, 33 years old. Maneja was reported by a concerned citizen for illegally discharging his firearms.
“Bilang may hawak ng isang lisensyadong baril ay dapat maging responsable s’ya sa paggamit nito. Kaya naman inutusan ko na ang Provincial Director ng Abra na makicoordinate sa RCSU para sa cancellation ng kanyang privileges”, PBGEN LEE said in a statement.
In Bangued, April Balicaw Guetang, 31 years old, was hit by a stray bullet on her right leg. Guetang is in stable condition and currently confined at Seares Memorial Hospital.
In line with the implementation of the existing Firecrackers Ban Ordinance, a total of 701 firecrackers and Boga were confiscated amounting to Php24,960.00.
The accomplishment may be attributed to the significant decrease in fire-cracker-related injuries. For this year, one firecracker-related incident involving a 32-year-old male from Luba, Abra.
The victim has incurred a first-degree burn on his left index finger due to kwitis. Last year, four (4) firecracker-related incidents were recorded during the same period.
“Bagamat, may mga naitalang insidente, sa kabuoan ay naging mapayapa ang ating pagsalubong sa bagong taon dito sa buong rehiyon ng Cordillera”. PBGEN LEE added.
