The National Irrigation Administration – Cordillera (NIA- CAR) reported that it completed a total of 172 irrigation projects out of the 195 programmed in calendar year (CY) 2022, equivalent to 82
percent accomplishment valued at P1.608 billion. Based on the Summary Status of Project
Implementation Report dated January 31, 2023, to Benito Espique, Jr., Regional Manager of NIA-CAR by Sammy Kimbungan, head of the agency’s Engineering Section, completed projects (2022) has generated 2,762 hectares (ha.) of new service areas and restored 985. 25 ha. For a total of 3,747.25 ha.
More than 18,000 farmers were benefitted on the completed projects, and generated a total 9,849 jobs across the region. In 2022, the agency was allotted a total P1.960-Billion. Kalinga topped the list of provinces with the most number of completed projects with 55 followed by Mt. Province 47 Benguet 28, Abra 26 , Ifugao (9), , and Apayao 7. Among the completed irrigation projects as per fund source include—repair of national irrigation and communal irrigation systems (NIS/CIS); Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC), and Establishment of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (EGPIP)-Solar/Fuel.
Other works include restoration service roads in national and communal irrigations systems. Meanwhile, for this year, the agency has a total allocation amounting to P1.474 billion, and has programmed a total of 262 projects—spread to the following provinces – Abra 32; Benguet 53; Ifugao 33; Kalinga 33; and Mt. Province 90.
