LA TRINIDAD, Benguet
The National Irrigation Administration – Cordillera (NIA-CAR) said it completed 226 out of 289 irrigation projects for Calendar Year 2024, equivalent to 87.83 percent physical accomplishment. Regional Manager Engr. Benito Espique,Jr. of NIA-Cordillera said as of March 15, 2025 (Status of Project Implementation) some 702.70 hectares of new areas were developed and restored 2,614.13 ha. For a total of 3,316.83 ha. Mountain Province topped the list of completed projects with 61 followed by Benguet 48, Ifugao 40, Kalinga 34, Abra 23 while Apayao 20. Espique added that it benefitted more than 20 thousand farmers and generated a total of 17,557t jobs.
Completed projects include repair of repair and restoration of communal and national irrigation systems (CIS/NIS), Small Irrigation
Project (SIP) and Establishment of Ground Pump Irrigation Project-Solar (EGPIP-Solar) and service roads, among others. A total of P3, 515.950.84 billion was allocated to the agency in 2024. Other projects completed are repair and rehabilitation works to include -canal lining 44.77 kilometers, pipeline 44.40 km and 3.54 km of concrete road.
As fund source, the agency has completed one project under Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component. Meanwhile, for 2025, the agency has lined up a total of 93 projects distributed to – Mountain Province (25), Kalinga (21), Ifugao (18), Apayao (13) while Abra and Benguet each have eight projects, respectively. This year, said agency has a total allocation of P2.637 billion of which P2.1 billion will be utilized for solar irrigation projects. To date, an initial funds were released: P100 million for solar irrigation projects while P350 million for regular projects.
