NIA-CAR HASTENS IRRIGATION PROJECTS; WATER DELIVERIES SET

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

Some forty farmers will be benefitted on the completed Togtog Maaliwen Small Irrigation Project located in Barangay. Tamboan Besao, Mountain Province, the National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera (NIA-CAR) reported. The irrigation project which aims to serve an area of five hectares ,benefitting 40 farmers. Include ongoing canal lining works cover almost a kilometer funded under NIA’s CY 2023 budget, the project aims to serve an area of five hectares with 40 farmers.

This CY 2023, there are a total of 90 irrigation projects all over Mountain Province which target to generate new area of 252 hectares and restore 627 hectares. Meanwhile in Abra, the NIA Abra Satellite Office said water delivery for the various irrigation systems will start on June 15. Earlier, farmers of the Abra River Irrigation System (ARIS) recently met with the agency’s personnel and
discussed the schedules of water delivery, canal clearing and cropping calendar for the wet season (2023).

NIA-CAR also reported that the construction of protection works along the diversion area of the Magmaguey Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in Barangay Poblacion, La Paz has been completed. Some 90 farmers will be benefitted on the 70-hectare irrigation system. In other development, water delivery in the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) for this wet season starts on July 1. For 2023, the agency was given a total allocation of P1.703 billion for the 273 total irrigation projects lined up. In 2022, the agency received a total of P1.960 billion budget with 195 projects.
