PGLU, LGUs do road inventory

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, La Union — The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) validated the inventory of local roads and bridges in 20 component Local Government Units (LGUs) to help in the formulation process of the proposed Traffic Management Strategy (TMS) in an initiative to establish its own TMS.
The LGUs of Caba, Aringay, Santo Tomas, Tubao and Rosario participated in the fourth batch of the validation held at the Eriguel Hall, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Building, City of San Fernando, La Union on August 30, 2019. Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Michaela Louise T. Delfinado welcomed the participants from the different LGUs.
OPPDC Planning and Development Officer IV Venido Alcantara discussed the validation of the province-wide local road and bridges inventory during the validation-meeting.
A workshop was also conducted on the identification of road length of the existing road and actual boundaries in barangay and municipal roads, identification of possible new road openings, identification of local roads along disputed areas, assessment of local roads with appropriate Sangguniang Bayan ordinances and identification of existing road programs initiated by the national government.
The validation is initially intended to identify and address the said issues and concerns. The validation of roads and bridges inventory aimed primarily at establishing an accurate and updated data from national roads down to barangay roads.
The validation will be a big help in providing a comprehensive situationer of local roads and bridges which will eventually be used in formulating TMS, to improve transport flow in the province by optimizing the use of existing capacities that would reduce the worsening traffic conditions especially on the identified bottle necks in the province.
