The numbers game

The Philippine National Police (PNP) authorities in Bulacan came up with 32 deaths as a result of a massive “one time, big time” operation against illegal drugs in the province, all in the span of one day. The police authorities in Manila, perhaps not to be outdone, came up with 25 deaths as a consequence of their own “one time, big time” operation against illegal drugs and criminality.

At this time all drug pushers, drug lords, even drug users as well as other criminals in the country are already presumed to be absolutely scared s***less as a result of this unrelenting war against drugs and crime being implemented by the government.

President Rodrigo Duterte has already admitted that the country is already a “narco state” and minces no words in forcefully declaring that the gloves are off.

In fact with the backing and support of the President the PNP has suddenly found new strength and determination in going after those engaged in the illicit sale and distribution of illegal drugs and those who keep on preying on hapless and ordinary citizens of our country.

It has become a numbers game.

The President himself said in a recent speech that he is hoping that there should be more 32 deaths per day for those involved in illegal drugs and to finally eradicate the drug menace that is plaguing the nation.

This is the mandate that has been laid down by President Digong and a heavy burden of responsibility that he has admitted may well get back at him in the future.

It is important to point out that before Digong became president of the republic a majority of the Filipinos already know that there is a problem regarding illegal drugs, particularly “shabu”, in the country. In fact during the presidency of Nonoy Aquino there were exposes left and right about the illegal drug trade occurring right under the noses of the government within the National Bilibid Penitentiary in Muntinlupa.

The Filipino people already knew about the drug problem in the country but it took a former mayor of Davao to inform them about the true nature and extent of the pervasive influence of illegal drugs which has reached down to the lowest strata of our society and what is needed in order to permanently exorcise this evil malaise that has struck our nation.

To those who would want to live in a peaceful, orderly and secure environment and a future that is generally devoid of drug pushers peddling their evil wares to unsuspecting children and minors then the President should be allowed and given the benefit of the doubt with respect to his war on drugs. He himself has admitted that after the end of his term he will be ready to face the music for his actions and this should already tell those still involved in illegal drugs and other crimes that for once we have a leader that is willing to lay down everything on the line to secure a better future for his people.
