The Sum of Small Efforts

Our social environment is an important factor in our individual health. Health and well-being are resources that enable individuals to thrive and reach their full potential. Verily, without good health, we won’t be living long and happy for good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle.
Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 491 or known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, PCNHS helps to promote greater awareness among Filipino youth on the importance of nutrition. Activities of the said event are conceptualized by the TLE Department for the learners to understand more the theme of this year’s nutrition month, “Kumain ng wasto at maging aktibo, push natin to”.
The activities are as follows: poster making contest, nutrition quiz, rap competition and singning contest, and cooking festival.
Reminding the importance of nutrition is vital for the learner’s body and all of its system to function properly. By having good nutrition, it will help the learner maintain a healthy weight, reduce body fat, provide the body with energy, promote good sleep, and generally make feel better.
Therefore, if learners are not well, all bodily activities start getting hampered. Pines City National High School (PCNHS) checks the food of every employee and student entering the school campus year round. The nutrition chart is visible to every individual because it is placed strategically at the gate.
Teachers and students are all encouraged to eat meals prepared at home and the idea is being cascaded to parents and guardians during PTA meetings. Bring your own box is reiterated to delimit the use of paper plates and bowls, plastic spoons and forks.
Through this menial effort, PCNHS helps in the implementation of the city ordinance on solid waste management under the City Ecological Solid Waste Management Board pursuant to Section 186 of Ordinance Numbered 18, Series of 2016 or the Environment Code of the City of Baguio.
However, the impact of nutrition awareness month reminds the students that the cornerstone of a healthy diet is to replace processed food with real food whenever possible.
As much as food affects our mood, mood affects our food choices. Accordingly, people feeling happier feelings are more likely to choose healthier foods because they believe that food has an impact on the way we think. Our bodies derive energy from the foods and liquids we consume.
Henceforth, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise will be what is needed to achieve one’s goals. May then the youth of today always remember that nutritious diet is good for one’s mind and body! A healthy lifestyle cycle is when a person needs to have a balanced diet and has to regularly exercise because health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.
As what Awatikagnafer said that social equality and harmony are important for individual health; for health and well-being are the resources that enable individuals to thrive and reach one’s full potential.
