BAGUIO CITY ENFORCES STRICTER MEASURES FOR RESPONSIBLE NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

The Baguio City Police Office, under the leadership of PCOL RUEL D TAGEL, BCPO City Director, is implementing measures to ensure public safety during the upcoming New Year celebrations. This includes the strict enforcement of Republic Act No. 7183, an Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices. Furthermore, Baguio City Ordinance No. 53, Series of 2009, which prohibits the sale and use of firecrackers and fireworks within city limits, is rigorously enforced.

The BCPO, in collaboration with various government agencies and units, has launched a comprehensive public
information campaign to educate residents and visitors about the dangers of firecrackers and the importance of adhering to relevant laws and ordinances. This is in line with its five-pronged program on public safety. In a recent demonstration of public cooperation, a concerned citizen voluntarily surrendered firecrackers she confiscated from a minor sibling on December 23, 2024. The recovered items included two pieces of two Judas belts containing a total of two thousand rounds.

This incident underscores the importance of community involvement in maintaining public safety. The BCPO, driven by selflessness and excellence, remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve. All citizens are urged to report
violations of the law and ordinance and to remain vigilant throughout the celebratory period.
