Mathematics Enthusiast

Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Math is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and modern), art, money, engineering, and even sports (Hom E., August 16, 2013).
Our school Mathematics Festival at Pines City National High School (PCNHS) was held last August 29 – 30, 2019 in preparation for Mathematics Festival District Level, Damath Contest and Quiz Bee respectively. I have seen the excitement and readiness of the students who are Math enthusiast to join the Damath and Quiz Bee contest.
I realized that many students in PCNHS are enjoying Mathematics as there subjects. I think students really like to be challenge in everything they do. According to (Magayon, V., & Tan, E., 2016) Study after study shows that students perform better academically when they are challenged in the classroom. Students are more eager to learn when their schoolwork pushes them to think deeply about a skill or area of expertise.
Mathematics is a skill that needs a lot of practice not to make it perfect but to familiarize it. Mathematics from its word seems to be difficult but when we learn and understand it more it becomes easier, we just need to use our common sense and not to memorize every formula we encountered.
It is normal in a school that not all students like mathematics because it deals with numbers which sometimes affect their performance. A mathematics enthusiast student should learn to help other students who are in need. “Direct interaction between students promotes active learning.
Students feel more comfortable and open when interacting with a peer. Peers and students share a similar discourse for greater understanding. (Briggs, S., n.d.)
