PRO-Cor reaches out to almost 13,000 indigent families in CAR

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, May 22(PIA) — The Police Regional Office
– Cordillera (PRO-Cor) has provided relief assistance to more than 13, 000 indigent families in the Cordillera region thru the “Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko! Adopt- A-Family Program.”

PRO-Cor Information Officer PMaj. Carol Lacuata said the the “Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko! Adopt-A-Family Program” is an initiative of the PNP to augment the support of the government to the indigent families who are affected by the implementation of the enhanced
community quarantine (ECQ) and the general community quarantine (GCQ) due to the COVID-19 threat.

In the Cordillera region, the different police units from the regional headquarters down to the provincial, city, municipal and stations contributed cash from their personal pockets.

The amount they pooled amounting to P10 million was used to purchase basic food and commodities such rice, canned goods, noodles, sugar and other food and non-food items which were distributed to the beneficiaries.

The different police units identified their recipients from the poorest among the poor in the community, elders and persons with disability, those who are living alone and in far flung areas, and those who have not yet been reached by the support of the local or national government agencies.

As of May 20, the PRO-Cor has reached out to 12, 898 indigent families in the region.

Aside from the food items, Cordillera police units also provided facemasks to their beneficiaries to as part of the pre-cautionary measures to ensure safety from the COVID-19.

Last month, Chief PNP Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa called on all police officers in the country to adopt indigent family in their respective areas of responsibility by providing them with food packs, grocery items and financial assistance good for at least one week.

As the PNP expressed its support to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to implement a total lockdown to impose law and order for the good of the country and of the people; we recognize the hardship of poor families particularly those who have no permanent residences,” Gamboa said.

It was also last month when the Chief PNP turned over P228,445,207 to the Department of Finance headed by Secretary Carlos Dominguez as proceeds from #Team PNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge to help poor families during the Enhanced Community Quarantine and General Community Quarantine.

The PNP also provided “Libreng Sakay” to indigent families, patients going to the hospitals and the frontliners such as hospital workers and government agency employees working during the ECQ and GCQ.
