BAGUIO NEEDS 2500 SKILLED WORKERS; PANAGBENGA ON 2022

A lot of things to happen and It will be an exciting year for 2022, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong sounded optimistic as he revealed that the Summer Capital will be needing thousands of skilled workers for the billions worth of infrastructure projects to prime up the local economy and recover from devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We need projects to drive our economy, to recover, and boost our tourism. Employment is critical for our economy,” stressed by Mayor Magalong during the regular press forum “Ugnayan” held on Thursday (Dec. 16) at City Hall.
“In 2019, we listed projects to be undertaken, it was a dream, now its happening,” Magalong said following his recent meeting with a top official of Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) which the local chief executive spelled out the city’s requirement of skilled workers starting 2022 onwards.
Among the projects in the pipeline include–market development; intermodal transport system; convergence center; rehabilitation of the city’s sewerage system; sidewalks for “walkable city; construction of new barangay halls like in Irisan, satellite market in Pacdal; development of Session road; and Post Office Park.
Other projects are construction of new government center in Loakan Road to house- the local fire station, judiciary and prosecutor ’s buildings, respectively; Digital Center- ICT Academy; hydro electric plant; and the further development of the “Smart City” (traffic and monitoring cameras).
“Talagang napaka busy starting 2022 to 2024,” Magalong said. He also revealed that he recently met an Indian Business Forum, and the group is set to established a manufacturing plant (medicine) at the Special Economic Zone (Loakan). Battling Covid, We are better off Before revealing all those infra projects, Magalong reported “we are better off” compared in the previous months in addressing the pandemic crisis, but the mayor was quick to say “we have learned our lessons- we are prepared to deal the threat of Omicron variant .”
This developed after Magalong reported that the city’s pro-active action against the pandemic has surpassed the national vaccination target – the “city has enough supply of vaccines.”
In fact, he said, the city has shared some 34 thousand of Covid vaccines to other places-Regions 2, 3 and other parts of Cordillera. Tourism- Panagbenga (2022) to push through
“Definitely Panagbenga will push through next year,” Magalong said. He stressed “ culture and tradition” must be sustained and he called on that the threat of Omicron variant must be “subdued.”
Magalong noted the increase of visitors brought by the very manageable triage and the easing up of inter-regional routes. Amid the cool climate, Magalong warmly invite visitors to come up, take advantage of the low cases of (Covid) , thus, enhance the city’s life-blood, the tourism industry.
