BCPO deploys 600 cops for checkpoints

Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) deployed more than 600 law enforcers to manage the established checkpoints and perform the mobile and foot patrols in the different parts of the city pursuant to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to fight the Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 and prevent its spread in the city.
BCPO City Director Police Col. Allen Rae F. Co said the number of law enforcers deployed represents two-thirds of the total staff of the city police force as the remaining one-third will have to undergo the needed rest for them to sustain the expected prolonged work hours during the implementation of the ECQ.
At present, BCPO has total human resources of more than 800 police personnel who work round-the-clock in the implementation of the anti-criminality, peacekeeping, antiterrorism and anti-insurgency operations in the city.
Aside from the deployment of the two-thirds of the BCPO’s total manpower on the streets at one time, the police official disclosed that the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera provided an augmentation of 48 police personnel from the Regional Mobile force to staff the city’s checkpoints and help in the conduct of the foot and mobile patrols to instill discipline among the people to comply with the stringent rules and regulations in instilling law and order in the city “We appeal to the people of Baguio to cooperate with our law enforcers at the checkpoints in the different parts of the city and understand the real purpose of the established checkpoints.
We are implementing the checkpoints pursuant to the guidelines issued by the inter-agency task force and that people should respect the same,” Col. Co stressed.
He underscored that while manning the police checkpoints and conducting foot and mobile patrols in the city, the other police personnel assigned in the different stations and offices will be performing their regular functions so as not to affect the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities.
According to him, the city police force has not encountered any untoward incident during the first week of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in the city that is why the BCPO remains optimistic that the implementation of the checkpoints and conduct of the foot and mobile patrols will remain smooth.
Co-assured law enforcers remain in high spirits in serving at the different established checkpoints and implementing the foot and mobile patrols in the different parts of the city considering the utmost cooperation of the people to the stringent rules and regulations.
The police officer asserted the BCPO remains aggressive in the implementation of the appropriate peacekeeping strategies to ensure the city remains peaceful and orderly during the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.
He advised people to continue to stay in their homes if they do not have anything to do outside their residences so as not to complicate the problems created by the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine, especially in restricting the movement of the people in the different city barangays.
Co-claimed that if the people were able to comply with the strict regulations of the quarantine, then they should continue complying with the same for orderliness in the city.
