Benguet Guv reiterates adherence of public to health protocols

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Oct. 2(PIA) – Governor Melchor Diclas appealed to the people of Benguet to continue adhering to all the health protocols to prevent contracting COVID- 19.

“We remind the public again to strictly observe all health protocols while we remain under Modified General Community Quarantine until October 31, 2020. Let us continue our culture of unity through cooperation as we continue to battle this pandemic,” Diclas said.

The Governor made the appeal as Benguet recorded on Oct. 1 the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a day with 31, 29 cases in the province and two cases who were swab tested in the province but are residents of other provinces.

Of the 29 new cases, the municipality of Bakun recorded 14 cases, La Trinidad with 11 cases, Itogon with two and one each from Tuba and Bokod. Bakun Mayor Bill Raymundo said the 14 cases in the municipality were local transmission and were inflicted by a confirmed COVID-19 case from Tinoc, Ifugao who had a travel history in Barangays Sinacbat and Bagu in Bakun recently.

Among those infected include a one-year old baby girl and an 80-year-old male who are the youngest and oldest COVID-19 cases in the municipality and in the province. Bakun has now 16 COVID-19 cases with 15 active and one recovery.

Raymundo on October 1 issued EO 49-2020 extending the lockdown earlier imposed in sitios Maandap and Sinacbat Proper of Barangay Sinacbat and Sitios Bilig, Aladog and Pabileng of Barangay Bagu and placing other protocols such as the strict implementation of the public health standards and the suspension of the distribution of modules in the lockdown areas.

Meanwhile, the province recorded its fourth COVID-19 related death on Oct 1, a 56-year-old male from La Trinidad who tested positive on September 23, two days after being admitted at a health facility.

The patient had critical multi organ failure among other medical conditions. The province of Benguet now has 348 total confirmed COVID-19 cases with 119 active, 225 recoveries, and four COVID-19 related deaths.
