CARAA tentatively reset in March

BAGUIO CITY, Feb. 7(PIA) — The Department of Education – Cordillera (DepEd-CAR) is considering to hold the postponed Cordillera regional sports meet in March.
DepEd-CAR Information Officer Georaloy Palao-ay said that the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) sports meet which was postponed last week by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong due to the threat of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus has been set tentatively on March 24 to 28, 2020. The CARAA was scheduled on February 16-21 in Baguio City.
Palao-ay said that the CARAA Board has set the new date but it will still depend on the recommendation of the Department of Health on the situation of the 2019 n-CoV.
This is also in adherence with the pronouncement of DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones thru DepEd Memo No. 15, s. 2020 or policy directive as preventive measure of the 2019-nCoV that includes suspension and postponement of events that allow congregation of huge number of learners and personnel.
The annual CARAA sports meet gathers more than 7, 000 athletes, coaches, trainers and other delegates from the different provinces and cities in the Cordillera region.
Apart from the suspension of national and regional activities for February such as the National Science and Technology Fair, the National Festival of Talents, and the National Schools Press Conference, Briones also suspended the conduct of “Off-Campus” activities or authorized activities relevant to learning that takes place outside the school premises like field or educational trips.
The DepEd reiterates its earlier directives for the strict observance of precautions recommended by DOH and the World Health Organization to reduce the general risk of transmission of respiratory infection, specifically, proper hand and respiratory hygiene, and safe food practices.
Proper hand hygiene is needed to minimize the risk of transmission through touching any contaminated object, material or surface; the respiratory hygiene is needed to reduce the risk of spreading the virus by an infected individual; and the safe food practices is to reduce risk of exposure to or ingestion of contaminated food.
