Councilor seeks Remaining 17 WWII vets delay in OPS award

Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong should refrain from giving Robinsons Land Corporation the Original Proponent Status, a lady councilor said this week, even as another says to proceed with the process so that all opposing views will be brought out in the open.
Councilor Maylen Yaranon said that Magalong should not proceed with the award with the OPS as she says that it would be best to get a solicited proposal instead of the unsolicited proposal that saw Robinson get the nod from the city’s Public-Private Partnership for the People (P4) Screening Committee last month.
She said after the Monday National Heroes Day celebration at the Sunshine Park that Baguio may have gotten the worst part of the deal when the P4 SC voted in favor of Robinsons offer for the multi-billion development of the city public market.
With a solicited proposal, the proponents can now show what they intend to do with the public market and from it, the city can have a better option. “I am not in favor of either Robinsons or SM (Prime Holdings), but we have not seen what they really have to offer. With a solicited proposal, they can now show us what they really intend to do and for us to make a wiser decision,” said the councilor, an architect by profession.
City council market committee chair Philian Weygan – Allan, meanwhile, said that she voted in favor of Robinsons so that the public private partnership process will proceed and all points of view will come out in the open.
