PSA-CAR calls for support on 2018 family income, expenditure survey

BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Cordillera is appealing for the support of local government units, the private sector, and the community as the 2018 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES 2018) is set to begin on July.
PSA-Cordillera Regional Director Villafe P. Alibuyog, in a press statement dated June 5, said about 6,800 statistical researchers and field personnel will be involved in the conduct of the FIES 2018 nationwide.
She said a sample of around 180,000 households is deemed sufficient to provide provincial level estimates.
She added that the 2018 FIES will be conducted twice. “The first visit will be done in July 2018 with the first semester, January to June 2018 as the reference period. The second visit will be conducted in January 2019 with the second semester, July to December 2018 as the reference period. The same set of questions is asked for both visits.”
The FIES is a nationwide survey of households undertaken every three years by PSA. It was last conducted in 2015.  The FIES is the main source of data on family income and expenditure, which include among others, levels of consumption by item of expenditure as well as sources of income in cash and in kind.
Alibuyog said the results of FIES “provide information on the levels of living and disparities in income of Filipino families and their spending patterns; provide benchmark information to update the weights used in the estimation of Consumer Price Index (CPl); and provide inputs in the estimation of the country’s poverty threshold and incidence”.
“The FIES results are valuable inputs in development planning, policy formulation, and monitoring and evaluating programs and activities,” she said.
The PSA is calling for the support of the regional line agencies, local government units, the private sector, and the selected sample households to support and cooperate in the conduct of the FIES 2018 by accommodating FIES enumerators and providing truthful information and assisting in informing the general public about the survey.
