4th Class Cadet Drowns At PMA Swimming Pool

BAGUIO CITY (November 8, 2019) – A fourth class cadet drowned at the Philippine Military Academy’s swimming pool Friday. Mario Telan, a member of Alpha Company, attended his swimming class from 11AM- 12noon Friday and since then has not been accounted in his next classes, PMA spokesperson Captain Cheryl Tindog said.
A search was conducted and Telan was found in the 15- foot deep end of the pool. Rescuers tried to revive him and were immediately brought to the Fort del Pilar Station Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
A thorough investigation is now being conducted, Tindog assured, “to determine the events that transpired leading to this incident.” Tindog also vowed that the PMA will undertake all needed actions and protocols “to deal with any infraction and/or irregularity”.
In lieu of the incident, all swimming classes of the cadets were temporarily halted by the PMA “until such time that the incident has been properly addressed.” Tindog said PMA, still reeling from the death of fourth class cadet Darwin Dormitorio from hazing, “deeply grieves for this unfortunate loss of one of our sons.”
All necessary assistance will be extended to the bereaved family and loved ones of Cdt 4CL Telan, Tindog also assured.
