Benguet opens first province-run dialysis center

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The provincial government and the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday opened the first province-run dialysis center. Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) acting chief, said the dialysis center can serve at least 27 patients a day.
There is also another dialysis machine earlier procured by the provincial government which was also placed at the center to serve the people of the province. Governor Melchor Diclas, in an interview, said the dialysis center at BeGH will be run by the hospital.
There are currently two dialysis centers owned by a private concession that are renting a space at the hospital.
He said they are expediting the completion of requirements to be able to immediately get the license to operate from the DOH, which will formally give the go signal to accept patients. Diclas said they will accept PhilHealth-covered patients at the hospital’s dialysis center.
During the opening of the center, DOH Undersecretary Roger Tong-an, a native of Benguet, said the agency will be providing 10 more sets of hemodialysis machines as part of the expansion of the facility to cater to more patients.
