Fake dentists caught by NBI in Baguio, fined

BAGUIO CITY (March 30, 2022)—- The Third Branch of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTC), First Judicial Region here slapped two fake dentists fines and possible imprisonment  after they were found guilty of violating Republic Act 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.
RA 9484 or An act to regulate the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene and dental technology of the Philippines has repealed Republic Act No. 4419, otherwise known as “An act to regulate the practice of dentistry in the Philippines, and for other purposes”.
Cristita Pollyn Pakora Gano and Anita Mangiyo Matias were found guilty and were ordered to pay P300,000.00 with subsidiary imprisonment in case of insolvency.
Gano was arrested on February 20, 2020 by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Cordillera while treating a poseur patient in a building in Lakandula St. in Baguio City. 
Matias meanwhile was arrested by NBI agents on February 17, 2021 while treating a poseur-patient at the Shoppers’ Lane along General Luna Road, also here.
The two were caught after the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Baguio Chapter sought the NBI for assistance against several persons engaged in illegal practice of dentistry in the city.  
During trial,  the Court credited more weight on the testimonies of victims via the prosecution, thus convicting the two.
