First Foamy Fun Run entices Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY – Over 400 participants joined the “Foamy Fun Run” at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on April 23, 2017 for the benefit of Banca Project of the World Wildlife Fund-Philippines (WWFP).
Organized by CoCo Running and Media Vessel TV and Event Productions, in partnership with Miranda Run Events, the Foamy Fun Run aims to help the family of fishermen in Aklan who were victims of the typhoon Yolanda. “Nawalan kasi ng pangkabuhayan yung mga Yolanda family victims kaya sa tulong ng fun run na ito at ng WWFP, mapupunta rin sa kanila yung funds,” said event organizer Jovy Barangay.
Race director Marites Miranda said, “Foamy Fun Run initiates to establish camaraderie, healthy, and strong relationship within family, friends, and co-running enthusiasts.” What makes it different from other fun runs is that it uses a mass of small liquid bubbles called “foam” floating in the air to make it more creative and exciting.
The organizers assure the runners that the foams are safe and nontoxic, and would just give a bubbly experience. They also secured the safety of the runners through the help of the Baguio City Police Officers (BCPO), Emergency Medical Services team (EMS), and Cordillera Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-CAR) in case of emergency.
The run started from Baguio Athletic Bowl to Kisad Road to Military Cut-Off and Loakan Scout Barrio then back to the Athletic Bowl.
As a reward, the runners are given free Pocari Sweat and Mogu-Mogu drinks.
The Foamy Fun Run started last 2016; the first and second fun run took place at Clark and Cebu. Being third on the list, Baguio City’s first Foamy Fun Run was chosen due to public demand. The organizers decided to do it in daytime since Baguio is a cold city especially during at night. The organizers were delighted to discover that there are a lot of running enthusiasts in the city. They hope to visit and bring Foamy Fun Run to other places in the Cordillera region. Ma. Theresita C. Garcia, UC Intern
