Maharlika Livelihood Complex highlights farmers in 37th anniversary

The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Cordillera engaged the farmers from the different provinces of the region to showcase their products through the regular Agri Trade Fair during the celebration of the 37th Founding Anniversary of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex (MLC) with the theme “Maharlika @ 37: Stronger and Growing Together.”
The week long anniversary celebration was held on August 14-19, 2017 at the rooftop of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex, Baguio Central Business District.
Organic farmer organizations in the region were invited to showcase their chemical-free products at their own price.
The products showcased include dragon fruit from Kapangan, Benguet and Mountain Province heirloom rice, LaTOP MPC organic vegetables and processed products, Tublay Agri-Based League of Entrepreneurs Cooperative organic vegetables and mushrooms, Brgy. Labilab Organic Farmers Association organic vegetables and eggs, Atok Arabica Coffee Growers Marketing Cooperative, Kalinga Coffee, Suka Watwat Gourmet Vinegar products and Sagada etag, among others.
City Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr., committee chairperson on Market, Trade, Commerce and Agriculture, emphasized that the partnership between the public and private groups should continue. He invited everybody to patronize the products of the farmers.
Executive Secretary Rafael Tallocoy from the office of the City Mayor explained the relevance of the activity. “This activity manifests the partnership among the groups like those of you who came all the way from the different provinces in the Cordillera. We thank you for your eagerness in promoting your products and we hope that this program will continue so that you will continue to promote your products not only in the Philippines but perhaps, even abroad particularly the Unoy rice, and wish you all to have a brisk sales in your products,” he stressed.
Dr. Lorenzo M. Caranguian, DA regional executive director, in his message, extended his support to the Maharlika Complex to whatever plans they have in the future. “Maharlika is already strong but the plan is getting stronger beyond 37,” he said.
Also, he stressed the DA’s strong support to the city by conducting trainings and seminars regarding urban gardening or container gardening. LENY MENDOZA / ABN
