PGLU STRENGTHENS INVESTMENT PROMOTIONS EFFORTS THROUGH INVESTLU

SAN FERNANDO, La Union

Featuring possible investment opportunities and investible areas in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) led by Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David together with PGLU Department Heads, and representatives from the Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI) La Union Provincial Office and Board of Investments (BOI) initiated the La Union Investment and Business Forum held on November 8, 2023 at Astoria Plaza, Pasig City.

In the keynote presentation of Gov. Rafy, she provided a quick run-through on why the Province of La Union will be the next investment destination in the north. She also presented the strategic roadmaps for priority sectors of investments which include the Performance Governance System Journey, digital innovations on different platforms and portals, current employment size by industry, partners in growing businesses, Proposed Comprehensive Land Use Plan for all Local Government Units and the different projects that will promote inclusive growth, induce high-quality job creation, and future programs that can boost economic thrust in the province.

Spearheading the program for the investment forum were Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotions Unit (LEEIPU) Assistant Department Head, Ms. Angela Grace C. Peralta and DTI La Union Provincial Director, Merlie D. Membrere. The Investment Forum was attended by investors and representatives from the private sector, heads of the different departments of PGLU, DTI La Union, BOI, representatives from the National Economic and Development Authority, Philippine Chambers of Commerce & Industry La Union Chapter, representatives from the Local Government Units (LGU) of San Fernando City, Luna and Bauang, La Union, Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC), local Micro Small Medium Enterprises from La Union, company executives, and other key stakeholders.

During the forum, PD Membrere emphasized that the goal of the forum is not only to promote
investment but to foster partnerships, create economic opportunities, and ultimately contribute to
the prosperity of our community. PPMC Vice President for Airport Management, Ms. Josefa Catherine Bad presented to the group the incentives and the reconstruction and renovation of the Poro Point San Fernando Airport, including the business prospects and potential investible areas within the Poro Point Freeport Zone.

Universal Leaf Philippines, Inc. President, Mr. Wilson P. Uy, also shared his insights on making a difference in touching people’s lives in different places where they do business and make investments. Ms. Zoe Villanueva, Assistant Marketing Manager of Awesome Hotel, also shared
information on the ease of doing business and the La Union business landscape.

DTI-Board of Investment Executive Director Atty. Bobby G. Fondevilla shared his message of
support for the facilitation of investment promotion activities. He commended the strategic alliance
of LGUs and National Government Agencies for strengthening investment promotion.
The activity served as an avenue to highlight why La Union is the next investment destination
in the North onwards economic growth and sustainable development in the province.
