Baguio logs 4th death, Benguet 1st

Five news cases were reported reported Friday here a day after its fourth casualty was reported even as Benguet recorded its very first death from nearby Itogon town. The Public Information Office identified the new patients as a 43-year old male from Salud Mitra; 74-year old female and 8-year old boy from MRR Queen of Peace; a 29-year old female from Gibraltar and 25-year old male from New Lucban.

On Thursday, August 6, PIO- Baguio chief Aileen Refuerzo reported the death of a 65-year old male from barangay Irisan whose results came out August 5. Identified as patient 77, the fatality is also the second death in less than a week in the city.

A 65-year-old male from Engineer’s Hill died last July 31. The region logged its first death outside of Baguio also on the same date, an 85-year old female from Abra.

Late reports from Refuerzo on Thursday also noted the three new cases: a 28-year old female from Lower Balacbac; 15- year old male from MRR Queen of Peace; and 28-year old female from San Luis.

Said that that two of the five reported earlier are still for validation and hence were not included in the tally. She also said that the tally on Thursday reflected the 55-year old female from Irisan.

Refuerzo did not give any details about the new patients but three of the barangays had been placed under lockdown by Mayor Benjamin Magalong earlier as contact tracing is being implemented.

Lower Balacbac and Irisan are expected to be put under lockdown for the protocol 48 hours to effect contact tracing.

Active cases in the city now stands at 86 with 66 recoveries and four deaths for a total confirmed case of 152. Magalong has also placed 23 barangays in a lockdown, namely: barangays Irisan,
Campo Filipino, San Luis, New Lucban, San Roque Village, Purok I of Pucsusan, Kias, MRR Queen of Peace, Pinsao Pilot, Loakan particularly sitios Ongasan and Pongian, Salud Mitra, Saint Joseph Village, Cresencia Village, Upper QM, Pinget, Sto. Tomas Proper, Engineers Hill, Kias, Concepcion Drive of Camp 7, Balsigan, Sto. ublic Nino – Salughterhouse, Pacdal, Purok 1 Andres Bonifacio, City Camp Proper and San Vicente, which is the fifth time since the start of the pandemic.

Magalong also ended the lockdown at the City Hall. Magalong placed the City Hall and PFVR gym on Wednesday after three employees tested positive and where workforce was reduced to a mere 20 percent.

In an advisory, the mayor said: “City Hall will open to the public tomorrow, August 7, following the completion of disinfection and contact tracing protocols.” He added, however, that the PFVR gym will only open on Monday, August 10, and those who want to travel must get their travel authority at the Baguio athletic bowl.

Today Magalong will also lift the temporary liquor ban he effected last July 27 when Baguio experienced its second wave of infection. Meanwhile, a 58-year old male from the nearby town of Itogon, Benguet died Thursday, the PIO – Benguet reported. It is the first death in the province and third local government in the region after Baguio and Abra. The region has logged six deaths, four in Baguio and one each in Abra and Benguet.
