CEPMO gets dads ok for Bayan park improvement

A much-neglected lesser known park here will get a P15 million facelift soon. Bayan Park at the middle of one of the most populated communities here will get the much-needed upgrade with the city council’s nod on Monday, August 3.

The city council did not hesitate to approve the request of the City Environments Park Management Office to pursue the upgrade of the park that was once managed by the 13 Aurora Hill barangays.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda expressed her elation with the P15 million upgrade of the park. “Of course, I am happy, finally we are getting a budget. The park has been neglected,” said Tabanda, who is from Modern Aurora Hill.

“We hope it will be an alternative to Burnham. The next step will be a presentation of the initial plans to the residents for finalization,” she added. Bayan Park resident Gideon Omero said the development is a much welcome development but expressed opposition to cutting some portions of the park for the put up of parking lot.

“Improvement yes. But if said improvements mean chopping off portions or skirts of the park to accommodate parking or private interests, it’s a big no,” said the 64-year older. Named after the first Filipino mayor of Baguio, Sergio Bayan, after American Eusebius Halsema, who was also the city engineer like his predecessor, Bayan Park is popular among residents there for walking, jogging and even Zumba.
