Conscientious mining

Philex Mining Corp. CEO & President Eulalio Austin, Jr. (right) and the company’s SVP and resident manager of Padcal mine, Manuel Agcaoili, led the entrance procession of the introductory rites during a Thanksgiving Mass, held at the APP Sports Center, in this town’s Sitio Padcal, Brgy. Camp 3, on Wednesday, July 19. Behind them is Eduardo Aratas, manager at Padcal mine’s Legal Division. “I’ve always believed that things happen for a reason,” Austin says, referring to some of the challenges that Philex Mining has faced. “And I also believe there is always divine intervention.” He appeals to officials and employees to be steadfast in their faith and to continue improving the Padcal operations, as “we are confident our good ore’s still with us,” reiterating the company’s Silangan project, in Surigao del Norte, needs $800 million to begin operations. But what should not be set aside is “conscientious mining,” he says, as this governs or dictates one’s conscience to remain a responsible miner. PR
