Kennon Road Opens For Light Vehicles

BAGUIO CITY (November 22, 2019) – Motorists on light vehicles (5 tons and below) heading to Baguio this Friday afternoon can pass through Kennon Road until Monday afternoon. This as the Inter-agency Task Force Kennon which has kept Kennon Road, both upland and lowland-bound, was closed for several months now while rehabilitation went on along the main road artery to the Vacation Capital.
Cordillera Regional DRRM Council chairperson and Office of Civil Defense-Cordillera Director Albert Mogol, who presided an emergency meeting of the Task Force said the 72- hour “upland bound” situation was decided upon the request of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to provide an open window for Kennon Road to open during weekends where tourist influx usually happens.
This to ease the heavy flow of traffic along Marcos Highway and the Tubao – Asin – Nangalisan Road, the city official explained. The DPWH and the PNP also approved of the “weekend window” proposal.
Mogol advised private vehicles who will utilize Kennon Road to observe the 20kph speed limit and traffic rules, especially when going for a stop over at the Lion’s Head, a famous photo stop.
Private vehicles are also advised to remain on the right (upward) lane as there are vehicles of residents along Kennon that are using the downward lane.
The Task Force also allows Baguio visitors who want to go down for a photo opportunity at the Lion’s Head must get a clearance from the police checkpoint at Camp 8 view deck, as they will only be allowed to pass upon leaving a valid ID or their driver’s license and return back to retrieve it after their Lion’s Head visit.
