La Union Highway Mishaps Claim One Dead, 2 Hurt

BAGUIO CITY (March 28, 2021) – One died and two were hurt in two separate vehicular accidents in La Union province Saturday night.
Emannuel Llobera, 41,  from Barangay Sipulo, died after he was hit by the car driven by Quintin Cortez, from Camangaan, Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur along the National Highway in Barangay Poblacion, Bacnotan, La Union at 9:30 PM Saturday, police said.
Bacnotan police investigators said Cortez was north-bound along the highway when Llobera suddenly crossed the highway west-bound.
Llobera was rushed to the Bacnotan District Hospital, but was declared dead-on-arrrival by the attending physician because of his massive injuries.
Cortez is already in police custody.
At around 10:00 PM also Saturday, two individuals suffered various injuries after they were hit by a truck at a pedestrian crossing along the National Highway in Barangay Antonio, Balaoan, also in La Union.
Reden Mon, 18, from Barangay Barraca, Bangar, La Union; and another minor who is also a resident of the said town, were aboard a motorcycle when the truck hit them.
The minor, police said, was driving the motorcycle and Mon rode behind him.
Balaoan police added that the truck was headed towards the South direction of the National Highway while the motorcycle was heading towards the East of Balaoan-Luna Road.

The motorcycle reportedly without caution entered the National Highway and the fast-moving truck smashed into the motorcycle throwing Mon and the minor unto the pavement.
The two were rushed to the Balaoan District Hospital, but were later on transferred to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in San Fernndo City, La Union for further treatment.
Mona, police said, is in critical condition.
Teh two victims were not wearing safety helmets,  police added.
