Pangasinan town takes shot at another Guinness record

BAYAMBANG, PANGASINAN – The Saint Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church is building a 51-meter high monument of its namesake patron saint in barangay Bical Norte here which will possibly be the world’s next tallest icon.
Rafael Saygo, municipal senior tourism operations officer, in an interview on Tuesday said the monument, which will be made of steel and engineered bamboo, will be taller than the 46.3 meters high Statue of Liberty in the United States and the record holder on tallest icon made of engineered bamboo in Burma.
“This is a church project in line with the 400th year founding anniversary of our parish and 600th year death anniversary of Saint Vincent Ferrer,” he said, noting the monument will be inaugurated on April 5, 2019.
Saygo said the lot where the monument is being built and the amount which would be incurred for its construction were donated to the church by private citizens.
“The local government unit is just helping in the promotion of this project of the church and it was planned that it will be an entry to the Guinness Book of World Records,” he said.
