President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday voted early at the Mariano Marcos Memorial School in Batac City, Ilocos Norte where he began his career in public service. Marcos, accompanied by his son, Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, arrived shortly after 7 a.m. at the school located in Barangay Valdez as a registered voter of Barangay Lacub, Precinct No. 36-A.

After voting, they proceeded to Calayab Elementary School in Laoag City, where other members of the first family were registered. In an interview, Marcos said that today’s results are going to have an impact on the mid-term and the national elections. It is the barangay officials, he noted, who can guarantee the delivery of votes to politicians and thus play an important role in the political landscape.

Marcos thus appealed to all residents to exercise their right to vote and to vote wisely. “Ang aking payo lang sa ating mga kababayan ay ‘wag niyo naman itatapon ang inyong karapatan na makapili ng mga inyong mga barangay official dahil alam niyo naman po na ang mga barangay official ang mga kaharap ninyo araw-araw (My advice to our countrymen is do not waste your right to choose
your village official as they are the ones you have to call on daily),” President Marcos said.

He likewise reminded the public not to sell their votes saying “kaya’t kung idadaan lang sa bayaran ay hindi kayo – mawawala ‘yung boses ninyo at hindi niyo maipili kung sino ba ang dapat talaga na mamuno diyan sa inyong barangay at sino ba ang talagang makakatulong sa inyo na harapin ang mga iba’t ibang problema na pang araw-araw na hinaharap ninyo na dinadala ninyo sa mga barangay official (if you will let your votes be bought – you will lose your voice to choose the ideal leader for your village, the one that can help you with the daily problems.),” he said.
