SNAP-Magat sponsors clean-up drive at Magat reservoir

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) Magat sponsored a clean-up drive at the Magat reservoir on June 16, 2020 in commemoration of World Environment Month.
Around 200 fisherfolk and purok (area) leaders who are members of the Municipal Fisheries Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC) in the province of Ifugao attended and participated in the successful drive.
The areas covered were Sitio Lubbong and Sitio Nagtipunan in the municipality of Alfonso Lista; and barangays Namnama, and Halag I, II, III, IV, in the municipality of Aguinaldo. The project also covered some areas of SNAP-Magat’s pilot solar project, which is located on the side of Isabela.
The clean-up drive addressed the proliferation of waterlilies and driftwood that flowed into the reservoir from upstream. When left unattended, the reservoir blockage could cause considerable damage to fish cages and affect the communities’ livelihood.
The collected trash was hauled by the volunteers via boats for disposal by collectors from the municipality of Alfonso Lista.
The Alfonso Lista chapter of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the municipal local government unit also participated in the event.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) also took part by providing additional meals for the attendees, while the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) equipped the boats used with diesel fuel.
“We remain committed to driving positive actions for the environment through our own programs or in partnership with our stakeholders and host communities,” SNAP-Magat president and CEO Joseph Yu said.
SNAP-Magat is a joint venture of SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower. It owns and operates the 360- to 388-MW Magat hydro on the border of Isabela and Ifugao and the 8.5-MW Maris hydro in Isabela.
