Stakeholders plant trees on Arbor Day in Kalinga

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, June 25 (PIA) – The Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (P/CENRO) spearheaded tree planting activities today in celebration of Arbor Day and National Environment Month.
Dr. Noel Barrientos, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, said the tree planting is also aimed to restore plantations under the National Greening Program and Integrated Natural Resources Management Project (INREMP) which were either burned, destroyed or incurred low survival rate.
The DENR personnel were joined by the 503rd Brigade of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and their partner people’s organizations (PO) in their simultaneous tree planting in three sites.
“Our personnel with the AFP and partner POs were assigned to plant at barangay Bulo, this city planting various forest tree species on NGP plantation areas,” Barrientos said. Tabuk CENRO Severino Dalutag said their staff together with the community and partner POs were assigned to plant at Sitio Ileb of barangay Nambaran on INREMP project areas.
Meanwhile, Pinukpuk CENRO Imelda Casiwan also informed that her group with the AFP, PNP, BFP and KAYO people’s organization planted 550 seedlings (400 Gmelina and 150 cacao) at their NGP project site in Calbayan, Catabbogan.
Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25 throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant activities.
