BFP-CAR ORD conducts Dengue Awareness and Clean-up Drive

BAGUIO CITY – The Office of the Regional Director, Bureau of Fire Protection Cordillera Administrative Region (ORD BFP-CAR), in partnership with the Municipality of Tuba, and Tuba PNP conducted a Cleanup drive on Thursday, August 15, 2019 in response to the Department of Health’s (DOH) declaration of a National Dengue Epidemic recently in the wake of the 146,062 cases recorded since January to July 20 this year.

The total number of cases nationwide for the 29th Morbidity Week alone (July 14- 20) is 10,502. This is 71% higher compared to the same period in 2018 (6,128 cases).

A total of 622 deaths were recorded. The “search and destroy” strategy is proven to be the most effective way to combat dengue according to the Department of Health (DOH).

This strategy intends to lessen and ultimately eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The clean-up activity started at around 8am and conducted along Marcos Highway starting in front of the BFP-CAR Regional Headquarters going down to Aspiras-Palispis Highway Flyover and ended at the Poyopoy Police Station.

Participating fire personnel included the ORD- BFP CAR, Tuba Fire Station Personnel, and Class Masiglat-Sunib Recruits. The Participating Fire Personnel were divided into groups and strategically assigned to areas along the said Highway.

The activity intended to apply the “search and destroy” strategy through cleaning and clearing potential mosquito breeding sites. All the garbage and debris were collected in one area and transported by the Municipal Truck of Tuba.

Tuba PNP participated in the traffic management and security of the area.
