House Quiz Seen Over CIDG Partisan Acts In Abra

BANGUED, Abra – Re-elected Abra lawmaker Joseph Sto. Niño Bernos vows to initiate a probe in the House of Representatives on the alleged partisan acts of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) minutes after ceremonially proclaimed as Abra’s re-elected representative Tuesday evening at the Provincial Capitol.
Rep. Bernos, vice-chairperson of the House committee on Peace and Order said he received information that more than 100 CIDG personnel were conducting “undocumented” and “illegal” activities for the benefit of congressional bet Victoria Seares-Corpus.
Corpus, who ran under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), is the wife of CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Amador Corpus. Rep. Bernos vowed “we will seek a congressional inquiry, so the truth can be revealed for the people to know.”
Evidences of the CIDG involvement at the start of the campaign until election day have been readied by the Local party Asenso, allied with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP).
“They are tainting the good image of police officers, who were non-partisan,” he added. A Special Provincial Board of Canvassers in Abra province granted Asenso’s petition for a ceremonial proclamation Tuesday night with 97.7 percent of election returns already transmitted.
Bernos, Abra’s youngest congressman at 36 in 2016 is heading for his second term. His victory marked a huge margin with 115,081 votes midnight Tuesday against Corpus’ mere 18,251.
Another congressional bet, Derdrei Ifurung, only got 3,226 votes. On May 2, Bernos and his sister-in-law, re-elected Governor Maria Jocelyn Valera-Bernos petitioned the Commission on Elections en banc for a Cease and Desist Order against the CIDG.
They detailed incidents starting in April showing the alleged involvement of the CIDG in incidents involving Corpus’ allies and their supporters.
“These operatives (CIDG) openly helped in the campaign of Mrs. Corpus. Who else would have issued the order?”
Bernos said, implying the direct involvement of Maj. Gen. Corpus. Mrs. Corpus had remained indisposed after her loss on Monday. Meanwhile, Gov. Valera-Bernos, who also enjoyed a landslide victory over rival Dolores town mayor Robert Seares, Jr. lavishly thanked Abrenians “for the trust and support given to her”.
She also thanked the poll officers, teachers, policemen and soldiers who served during the polls. Asenso drew a landslide victory in the top elective positions and in all 27 towns in the province.
Valera-Bernos garnered a tremendous 104,701 votes against Mayor Seares Jr.’s only 34, 661 as of 2PM Wednesday. The re-elected lady governor promised, “we will not betray the will of the people!”
“We now set out sight at bringing the province to greater heights,” she continued, while calling for “reconciliation to unite our ideas for a better Abra.”
